Reeves Gaming History
While this may seem like an unprecedented announcement, Reeves has been in numerous other games. Many of his movies ended up making very successful video game renditions. This is actually rare in the industry considering that many video game renditions of Hollywood properties fall flat.
His first appearance in a video game was actually way back in 1991, for the NES game “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure”. That same year, a Bill & Ted title was released for the handheld Game Boy as well. The Game Boy release was called, “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Game Boy Adventure: A Bogus Journey.”
The very next year, in 1992 Reeves found himself as the face of “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”. A few years later, Reaves stared in the blockbuster trilogy “The Matrix,” which inspired numerous video games. Later, in 2005, Keanu starred in “Constantine: The Video Game,” which was also based on one of his films.
The actor has a longer resume in the video game industry than many of his fans might expect. However, this is the first time a game developer hired him for a role he didn’t play in a film.
Keanu Reeves Is Johnny Silverhand
Reeves did not reveal much about his character onstage at E3, but a developer gave GameSpot some of the details.
Reeves will reportedly play the character of Johnny Silverhand. CD Projekt Red describes Silverhand as a “legendary rockerboy”. The character is named Silverhand because he has a silver robotic arm.
Silverhand is one of the main characters in the game, so he will likely be making frequent appearances.
In addition to providing the voice and likeness of Silverhand, Keanu also performed full-body motion capture.
CD Projekt Red
In December 2015, CD Projekt Red won the “Developer of the Year” award at The Game Awards 2015. The company’s most popular franchise is “The Witcher,” which has sold over 33 million copies as of 2017.
The company has based its new game on the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop system created by Mike Pondsmith.
CD Projekt Red says that Cyberpunk 2077 will be “far bigger” than The Witcher 3, which is well-known for its massive size.
Cyberpunk 2077 is finally releasing on April 16, 2020, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. However, it is important to note that there are some stipulations with the PC version. The PC version of the game will only be available for digital download, and no hard disk copies will be sold. This means that there will be no collectors edition for gamers in the United States.
